Michael, my brother, strikes again with an awesome exhibit that sadly just closed at the Museum of Art and Design called, Dead or Alive? From the show page I learned about some of the awesome artists included and one completely caught my eye, Tracy Heneberger.
The above, for example, is amazing. Her use of natural elements in her work is inspiring and I, of course, always love the repetition in artwork as well.
I’ve blogged previously about felted stones being made into pillows and floor coverings but this true rock wall is something else. I love how it looks like a growing anemone of river rocks with varied sizes and no other elements needed.
In reading up on Tracy on her site I came across her artist statement, which really summarized, for me, a lot of the artists that I enjoy looking at and writing up here. To quote her, “My sculpture is accumulative in nature, each large gesture an embroidery of many smaller ones. I just don’t trust mass achieved without the building aspect; increments are the forms I understand, and repeating and expanding them to create systems and structures is an act of ritual, transformation and faith.” Pretty poignant and perfect!
I highly recommend checking out her new and old work – it’s all fabulous.
